With the launch of Microsoft’s newest operating system coming in just a few hours, Windows 7 is already outselling Harry Potter on Amazon UK, and a few select Fry’s Electronics stores are opening at midnight to allow Windows 7 Fanboys to be the first on the block to get their hands on a copy.
And FYI: I’ll be attending a Windows 7 Launch party hosted by Leo Laporte at the TWiT cottage, I’ll post pics and a follow-up afterwards.
So are you ready for it?
For those of you that were not involved in Microsoft’s huge public beta testing program, in which they allowed nearly 8 million users to try out the OS for free, then you may not be prepared for the jump from either XP or Vista to Windows 7. Luckily, Microsoft has you covered.
Download and run Microsoft’s Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7.
Before you begin: Be sure to plug in and turn on any USB devices or other devices, such as printers, external hard disks, and scanners, that you regularly use with the PC you’re checking.
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor scans your PC for potential compatibility issues and lets you know about your Windows 7 upgrade options. Within minutes, you’ll get a report that tells you if your PC meets the system requirements, if any known compatibility issues with your hardware, devices, and installed programs are found, and gives guidance on what to do to before installing Windows 7 on your PC.
